A fragmentary cameo of a lady of the court of the emperor Augustus (27BC-14AD) which is estimated at £1500-2000 at Bonhams’ sale of the Ceres collection.
The Ceres Collection, formed over the last seven decades, features 101 lots from the ancient world through to the 18th century. Each lot is mounted on a ring for wearing.
Museums tend to dominate this sector, so this is a rare opportunity for private collectors to compete for items of this standard and, according to the catalogue, there are no reserves.
