Estimated at £8000-12,000, it sold to a specialist dealer at £15,500.
Cole specialised in small decorative timepieces of the highest quality. This 19½in (50cm) high clock includes a month-going movement with a Vulliamy-type deadbeat escapement and a silvered aneroid barometer and an angled mercury thermometer.
Both the style of engraving to the centre of the dial (signed Thoms Cole, London) and the absence of a serial number indicates it was made c.1845, just before Cole began numbering his wares.
It was sold on September 4 with its original glass dome cover and original engraved gilt-brass winding key.
The buyer's premium was 24%.
