The new enterprise was launched this week at 21 Ryder Street, the London showroom of Paris dealers Didier Aaron. The directors are Richard Feigen, one of Manhattan’s most powerful art dealers; Hervé Aaron, head of Didier Aaron, leading Paris specialists in furniture, pictures and drawings; and Sonja Abracen, who hails from the New York art scene and last June was one of the founders of the Moscow art fair.
Sonja Abracen is the managing director of the new dealership and her keen knowledge of the Russian market is the key to the firm’s foundation.
Feigen Aaron will offer top quality paintings, drawings, sculpture and furniture of the 16th to 20th centuries of special appeal to the Russian taste. They have a permanent gallery on the first floor of Didier Aaron’s London premises at 21 Ryder Street, SW1, and while Aaron, who also have galleries in New York, will continue to deal independently from the ground floor, the whole building will be given over to Feigen Aaron’s special exhibitions.
The new firm was officially launched on the evening of November 30 with an exhibition, Celebrating Art Collecting in Russia, 1764-1917, which runs until January 30.
This new concern is further evidence of London’s increasing prominence as the centre for servicing the Russian market. In last week’s Antiques Trade Gazette we reported the opening of MacDougall’s in St James’s, an auction house specifically aimed at this, one of the fastest growing elements in the global art market.
